John joined Spirit Energy in 2019 and was promoted to the Executive Committee in June 2022. As Asset Director for Morecambe Hub, John’s role is to ensure safe and profitable business delivery from Spirit Energy’s operated hub in the East Irish Sea. At their peak, the Morecambe Bay gas fields supplied 10% of the UK’s gas; now, in late life, they remain a significant contributor to security of supply.

John has a BSc in Petroleum Geology from the University of Aberdeen, and a MEng in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University. He started his career as a reservoir engineer before moving into commercial and then operations management. He has since held a variety of general and asset management roles, using a straightforward and collaborative leadership approach to deliver significant improvements in safety and business performance.
